2016年6月22日，由聯合國教科文組織國際自然與文化遺產空間技術中心（HIST）主辦，CAS-TWAS空間減災卓越中心（SDIM）、中國科學院空天信息創新研究院（AIR）、意大利國家研究理事會（CNR）和歐洲航天局（ESA）等單位協辦的“第三屆世界遺產空間技術培訓班”在AIR新技術園區舉辦開幕式。來自斯里蘭卡、柬埔寨、斯洛文尼亞、保加利亞、埃塞俄比亞、印度等12個亞、非和東歐發展中國家的25名世界遺產管理和研究人員參加了開幕式。這是HIST第三次舉辦世界遺產空間技術培訓班，前兩次分別在2012年和2014年舉辦。培訓班由中國科學院提供經費支持，旨在為發展中國家世界遺產決策者和管理者提供技術培訓，推廣空間技術在世界遺產保護和管理中的應用，共為20余國的世界遺產決策者和管理者提供了空間技術培訓。與前兩次培訓不同，此次培訓班除安排本中心和本研究所教師授課外，還專門邀請了歐空局和意大利國家科學理事會的著名世界遺產空間技術專家前來授課，真正體現了培訓班的國際性和高水平。培訓班于7月10日閉幕，為期20天。
